It has been a while since I have created one of these over 2 years in fact Coronavirus has had an affect on us all over the past 2 years, who would have saw this when it all started kicking off this little virus from china that was only meant to last 3 weeks became a worldwide pandemic that still affects our lives to this day my whole last year of university was done through a computer screen to prevent face to face contact and this was not the only thing affected.
All pubs and clubs in Scotland had to shut down due to lockdown so this had a huge effect on my blog as it heavy relied on Glasgow nightlife as my topic as seen by my last blog that I posted it has also had a huge impact on many peoples well-being and mental health as a report from 3 different surveys has concluded that more than half of students mental health has worsened as a result of the pandemic (be that through lack of bars who's to know). The night-time economy has taken a huge hit as a result of Coronavirus and research estimated that 393,000 jobs have been lost across the night-time economy throughout coronavirus. Since pubs and clubs have been opened I have been out to plenty of them and have seen a clear change in how they are run and work. Many have now implemented table service as their preferred (if not compulsory) way of ordering drinks many have invested in apps that can be used through punters phones. Adults and children aged 12 and over still had to wear face coverings until recently at indoor settings such as hospitality venues, more recently vaccine passport scheme was introduced last year for entry to nightclubs and adult entertainment venues and under this scheme anyone over the age of 18 must show proof (if asked) that they are fully vaccinated or have a negative lateral flow test result. These facts show just how impactful Coronavirus was to the hospitality industry people have had to adjust and many still are trying to wrap their heads around this though there does look to be light at the end of the tunnel we are unsure how much longer this will go on for.
Though many harken back to the days of pushing and shoving your way to the bar to try and get your drinks as quickly as possible and then doing your upmost once you have your drinks to weave your way through the sea off people that are packed together like fish in a barrel, I on the other hand see this implementation as a welcome edition to the service industry. You may lose the personal touch of interacting with another human while taking your order but does have its benefits such as no need to memorise a round of drinks order (especially after a few) that even the most calm and collected people would stumble and panic to remember in the heat of the moment of ordering with punters behind you bearing down. Furthermore it has decreased the need for cash in hand with apple and google pay through the apps that bars have implemented and even now when people can go to the bar many still prefer contactless payments from your card to reduce handing of money which saves trips to banks and makes the whole process easier in my opinion.
