Firewater

Firewater is a fun indie bar on Sauchiehall Street promising (and delivering) real music and hard liquor. This bar is a major draw for students, with occasional live music throughout the week and while the music policy airs on the side of indie, Firewater punters know how to rock out too. The venue has attracted its fair share of big name acts and many an after party to concerts over the years, this late bar in Glasgow is heaving seven nights a week. Cheap drinks and brilliant music (indie/old school rock/pop punk/disco), many people use this place as a place to pre drink before going elsewhere but it is open all night. The bar also caters to those who are looking for a wee bite to eat offering food in the evenings before the crowds really start to gather.

Now this is a place more up my street rather than the thumping tunes of the Solid Rock these are actually tunes that I recognise and know. For my trip to Firewater went on a Monday evening so I decided I would try out the scran along with my pint, opting for a pepperoni pizza and a pint of Birra Moretti that partner with Firewater with the pizza being in a 2 for 1 deal the total of them both only amounted to £7 (£4.50 for pizza and £2.50 for

the pint) which is a dangerous game to be playing as this is how you end up passed out on the bathroom floor after you've been spewing your guts up at an alarming rate and the cold floor suddenly becomes the comfiest place you have ever laid your head on. I have to say I rather enjoyed the pint had a quite sweet taste to it, which after the Munich Red and now this I am becoming quite accustomed to, very refreshing and paired well with my food decent, definitely would get again.
Now combine this cheap drink with FIFA and well you have got me hook line and sinker bringing 2 of my favourite activities together under the one roof. Now of course I had a shot had to prove i'm the dog bollocks at this and if given the chance the £50 would be making its way into my back pocket, here's how it went down I choose the old reliable Liverpool and my mate opted with the equally overpowered Real Madrid, the game starts off disastrous 5 mins in 1-0 down Hazard has made look a complete fool in front of the whole bar and then further shame is brought upon me as he scores another to make it 2-0 just before half-time at this point I've lost all hope crowd laughing at me just have to hope it ain't a demolishing at this point, so I had to make some changes to turn it round so man starts his comeback 2-1 Mane header still work to be done, then as by some miracle it 80th minute 2-2 the scenes brought it back from the depth and in the words of a true legend "This does not fucking slip now" (Steven Gerrard,2014) we're heading into the last couple minutes of added time I make one last attack down the wing with Mane past one, past two, past three and he shoots and scores!!!!! 3-2 93rd minute winner the crowd goes wild the bar starts chanting my name, the champagne get popped, I'm being crowd surfed across the room the jubilation is untenable they've all just witnessed history happen right in front of them. Now that's what I choose to believe they reacted anyway to that astonishing comeback that equals if not betters the champions league comeback in Istanbul.

After all that was out the way make your way back to the booths which I have to say very comfy and with plug sockets at each of them it is very convenient to be able to keep your phone charge for when your friend does eventually f*ck it and you capture it all on video. This is a place that I really like and would continue to come back especially on a Thursday night when it is absolutely packing and vodkas are only 89p a go with the tunes of Oasis, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys to name a few you just can't go wrong doors open at 5pm but I would give it a few hours to start picking up before making my way there. Overall brilliant place to go and in a very convenient location on Sauchielhall Street that if you do decide to go somewhere else after there are plenty of options close however I would just stay there all night.

Coronavirus Lockdown Booze

Well as you all well and truly know by now the coronavirus has arrived and lock-down has ensued this has therefore left me with a predicament on what to write on my last blog post, as this lock-down has stopped me from going to bars and clubs the only logical solution to this is to have a bevy in your own gaff however this has also become more difficult as queues to get into supermarkets has now become a task in itself to just get in to them. So your best bet is to pop into your local corner shop and see what drink they have left on offer and that will have to do you for the foreseeable, now you're only supposed to go out and shops for essentials and well think most of would agree some drink is essential to us all to get through these tough times. When I made it to my local corner shop the choice was limited but I was able to pick myself up some cans of Strongbow Dark Fruits  cider I know I've failed my namesake but in these tough times tough decision have to be made and ...

The Flying Duck

Photo Credit ( The Flying Duck ) T he Flying Duck is a semi-secret bar/restaurant situated on Renfield Street in Glasgow City Centre, it's ideal place for open minded folks looking for something a bit different to the usual bars in Glasgow and  as i was looking up bars to visit for my blog The Flying Duck was one that caught my eye opened in 2007 and a sister venue to Stereo, Mono, The Old Hairdressers and The 78 looking to make a name for themselves in Glasgow's underground music, vegan and drinking scene. Offering die-soul food inspired menu, healthy drinks selection, pool table, gigs, clubs, quizzes, film screenings, drag karaoke there really seems to be a little bit for everybody. So as we made our way to The Flying Duck walking up Renfield Street we were looking out for the entrance to The Flying Duck but were unable to see one, we began to wonder if we had took a wrong turn somewhere and had ended up lost, it wasn't until I noticed that there was a "si...
